Freestyle motocross rider Destin Cantrell has tried for years to make his mark in the growing Best Whip discipline. The Southern California rider has one of the best styles in the sport and is going to compete for "Best Whip" in the summer X Games Minneapolis next month.
Tell me about yourself. When did you start riding and how did you get into the sport?
I got my first dirt bike at the age of 4 for Christmas. My dad raced growing up so it was in my blood. I started racing until I was 15 years old and received the chance to switch over to freestyle. Shortly after that I was off traveling the world getting paid to ride my dirt bike. A dream come true
Where is your favorite place to ride?
My favorite place to ride I'd say has to be at Jimmy Fitzpatrick's house, Fitzland!
What are some of the toughest tricks you are going to perform at X Games?
I am competing in Best Whip at this years X Games Minneapolis so I am focusing on trying to get my whip as big as possible without crashing. I am up against some stuff competition but I am going to give it my all and send it.
What is the year/make/model of the current bike you are competing with?
I am riding a 2017 KTM 450 SX-F
What changes would you like to see in the sport to benefit riders, especially the younger generation?
I would like to see more opportunities in our sport; Racing and FMX. I feel like there are amateurs and young kids that are great riders that get overlooked. Having more qualifying etc to see what talent is out there would be one of the best things.
I'd like to thanks my fans and sponsors for all the support, see you at X Games! Follow me on Instagram at @CantrellFMX
